C.S Lewis Church, Holy Trinity Headington Quarry, Oxford, his grave, plus his former home The Kilns. C.S. Lewis is famous for his children's book The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe and also for this Christian Apologist books Mere Christianity & The Screw Tape Letters. We recently watched Shadowlands which rekindled our interest in 'Jack' and also his romance with American poet Joy Gresham.


Just a warning these locations are quite a way out of town if you are just on a day trip to Oxford. postcode OX3 8JD.The lake and extensive grounds that inspired the Narnia books can be visited at any time.The outside of the house can be viewed from the road, but arrangements must be made in advance with the C.S. Lewis Foundation for tour groups to see inside.


The Risinghurst estate did not then exist, and Kiln Lane was in the countryside just outside the parish of Headington Quarry. The surrounding countryside was an inspiration for his story Narnia which started off as a bed time story for Evacuee children.
