Welcome to the June 14th, 2024 Gordie Howe International Bridge construction update.
Gordie Howe Bridge Crews worked into the night on June 13th installing the exterior girders of the mid-span closure, completing the joining of the bridge decks. You might even think they wanted to be the only one to record the moment. No problem, not all was missed. Watch this video to the end and see the assembly of the mid span closure framework. It is June 14th and the mid-span closure is almost completely framed in. It looks like they are ahead of schedule. Another 10 days and I expect the bridge deck connection will be finished. I got a lot of video today, cut out the redundancy and left the interesting stuff I’m going to let it play. Lots to see. The bridge workers are something special.
Completion of the bridge deck is an awesome milestone. There is still a massive amount of work to be completed on the bridge and the plazas on both sides. Sorry I missed the side girders being swung into place, but the sneaky guys did it in the middle of the night.
However, the two sides have met in the middle. Finished or not we have another bridge crossing the Detroit River! Congratulations!
