Описание к видео "She Had to Do It" - State Closing Argument in Devyn Michaels Murder Trial

"She had to do it." Those are the words prosecutors say Devyn Michaels told a child welfare worker after her arrest for the murder and decapitation of Johnathan Willette, the father of her two daughters. In the State's closing argument, the prosecution systematically dismantled every defense theory while building their case that Michaels killed Willette because the walls were closing in: he had custody of their children, and she wanted him out of the way.

The prosecution spent significant time eliminating Deviere Willette, Johnathan's son and Devyn's husband, as an alternative suspect. Video surveillance showed his vehicles never left the neighborhood. Cell phone data placed him at home during the murder window. A fixed camera captured his work van in the same position from nighttime through morning. The prosecutor called the defense theory that Deviere jumped a back wall and traveled across town to commit murder a violation of "physics and common sense."

But the heart of this closing was Devyn's own words. Six separate inconsistencies in her police interviews were catalogued: the engagement ring she said was in the trash but wasn't, the gun safe she said didn't exist but did, the wallet she said Johnathan lost but was found in her underwear drawer wrapped in eight bags. And then the devastating question from detectives: Is it possible you decapitated him and don't remember? Her answer: "Yes, sir. It is very possible."
