Gold panning looks simple. A pan, some water, and patience. But for thousands of years, people have crossed continents, ruined lives, and chased rivers in search of it.

I’ve never owned gold. I’ve never hunted treasure. And yet, once I started learning about prospecting, I found myself completely pulled in.

This video is about chasing my first piece of gold in the Utah desert — not because it’s valuable, but because of what it unlocks. Camping along a remote river, sorting through maps and claims, and finally seeing that first flake in my pan made me understand why gold has always mattered to us, even when it probably shouldn’t.
