In 2015/16, Mama Quilla commissioned 25 new short films, many by first-time filmmakers, the majority women. The films celebrated Acts of Defiance, personal and political. The project was curated and facilitated by Kay Adshead.

The films were screened as part of our week's Festival at Theatre503 September 5-10, 2017. The Festival in included six new short theatre plays:

Tattooed Under the Skin by Nicola Werenowska directed by Kay Adshead

Dishonour by Tanika Gupta directed by Anastasia Osei Kuffour

Entering Incomplete Map Data Area written and directed by Kay Adshead

Disconnect by Paula B Stanic directed by Sue Dunderdale

Fucking Feminists by Rose Lewenstein directed by Lisa Cagnacci


Performed by a company of 9 women and 1 man.

We also produced two community projects, The Soldiers Son (which was specially written by Kay Adshead for The All African Women's group at the Crossroads Women's Centre and explored rape as a weapon of war) and Acts Of Defiance True Stories, devised by the company and researched with the All Women Zumba group.
