The imaginative jazz spirit Matt Wilson welcomes Honey and Salt, to celebrate the American poet Carl Sandburg (1878-1967). Wilson, like Sandburg, hails originally from Knox County, Illinois and for many years has composed music inspired by the poet’s work. Many of the songs were composed after Wilson received an acclaimed New Works Grant from Chamber Music America in 2001.
The ensemble was formed in 2002 and has performed throughout the US. Their debut recording will be released August 25, 2017 on Palmetto Records and features guest readings by actor Jack Black and jazz legends Carla Bley, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, Christian McBride, Rufus Reid and John Scofield.
