Aukey Mechanical Keyboard Product Review

In this video I review the Aukey Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. As a retro geek I miss the keyboards that you found on computers back in the 80's. Sure, some of them were bland and had no more character than the ones of today, but others had this FEEL to them. You'd press the keys and it felt like you were activating a switch. And the sound of these keyboards was AMAZING! They had such a nice click to them, you could easily imagine using them to do some serious computering like in a spy movie or a sci-fi adventure.

That feel and sound is something that is lost on most keyboards today. That's because most of todays keyboards are membrane keyboards. The keys rest on top of a rubbery membrane with conductive contacts on the underside. When you press a key, you're pushing down that membrane and thus pressing the contact onto the surface of a curcuit board thereby connecting the circuit for that key. Nothing is there to make a pleasant clicky noise. There are no mechanical switches that you can feel moving parts as you press.

Enter "mechanical" keyboards. It seems that in recent years, mechanical keyboards have made a comeback. You can find a wide variety in stores and on line. But figuring out which one is the right one for you can be a bit tricky.

Some are designed to give you the fastest responce time. I can't imagine being so fast with my typing that something like that would make a difference for me, but I guess if you are a serious gamer, playing games with keyboard controle, the speed of the keys could make a difference between life and death.

Some keyboards are build to feel more tactile while being silent. I don't understand this concept, but to each their own, right?

Finally there's the keyboards that I've been looking for. What I learned in my research was that there's a term for my kind of keyboard. It's "Tactile and cklicky". Now these kinds of keyboards come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, and many light up wiht an impressive LED array built in. The problem is the price. These keyboards are not cheap. Usually at LEAST 100 bucks if not 200.

I wasn't willing pay that. I may not like the keyboard that came with my new computer, but if the price of getting something better was going to be over $100, I'd learn to live with it. That's when my lovely wife found the Aukey Mechanical Gaming Keyboard on Amazon for $49.99 with free shipping.

The Aukey Mechanical Keyboard is AMAZING! it's well built, solid, compact, and best of all it's tactile and clicky! Just typing out this description sounds fantastic! Plus the keyboard lights up with a beautiful array of colors which you can customize.

Here's a link to the keyboard in case you want to check it out:

The lighting controls are pretty simple. I'll copy them here for anyone who ends up getting this keyboard and loses the manual:

ress “FN + PrtSc” to switch between the 12 lighting effects
Press “FN + Home” to choose from the 7 color settings
Press "FN + Ins" to swtich between the 3 bottom light effect or to turn it off
Press “FN + Esc” to turn on / off all lighting

In conclusion, I have to HIGHLY recommend this keyboard to anyone who wants tactile clicky mechanical keyboard, but doesn't want to pay lots of money to do it.

BTW, I am not affiliated with Amazon, Aukey, or anyone involved with the sale of this keyboard. I'm not being paid or compensated in anyway. The opinions I've expressed are purely my one from my own experience.
