What do Dave Hughes, Charlie Pickering, Carrie Bickmore, Ruby Rose and James Mathison have in common?

After months of speculation Network Ten and Roving Enterprises can finally reveal that the new 7PM project in development since late 2008 finally has a name.

The new 7PM project is called The 7PM Project.

While the name may not be very surprising the cast is extremely exciting.

Led by comedian co-hosts Dave Hughes and Charlie Pickering, The 7PM Project will be the simplest new idea in television for a long time.

Every week day from July 20, at 7PM the days news will be dissected, digested and re-constituted by some of Australias funniest and smartest.

The news of the day will be brought to audiences by newshound Carrie Bickmore. Carrie is best known for the 'Carrie At The News Desk' segment on Rove where she reads the news as imagined by the Rove writers room. While working on Rove Carrie kept her day job as newsreader and assistant news director at Nova 100 in Melbourne and will be putting those skills to use on The 7PM Project.

The 7PM Project will have a team of correspondents delivering stories from around Australia and around the world into the The 7PM Projects studio every night.

MTVs uber 'IT' girl Ruby Rose will be bringing viewers all the latest music news with a fresh take on entertainment from around the world. The media and sport beat will be covered by TVs most acclaimed man of leisure, James Mathison. More names will be announced over the coming weeks.

The 7PM Project is a place where people who are genuinely interested in the world around them come together to talk, offering genuine conversation in a space previously crowded by scandal and spin.

While its not afraid to be serious, The 7PM Project can guarantee that there will be no miracle diets, no stories that no parent can afford to miss, and virtually no dodgy plumbers.

The 7PM Project is the news un-spun. It is not a satirical newscast in the style of Jon Stewarts Daily Show, but a TV show joining in the conversations going on in living rooms around the country.

TEN is a great place to develop a program like this, it will take time for people to get their heads around this show and TEN have a reputation for giving shows room to grow. They gave Rove room to grow and we are still here 10 years later.

Dave Hughes commented, I already come home, flick on the TV and yell at the news, The 7PM Project has given me a chance to make a living out of one of my favourite pastimes.

Charlie Pickering added, Ive always been a fairly opinionated person and its about time I stopped annoying my family.

Carrie Bickmore said, On radio I read the real news and on Rove I read the comedy news this is the best of both.
