Naturally, I am sceptical when the police claim a Section 35 Dispersal Order is in effect, as I have been subject to a few of them.
During an Extinction Rebellion protest a few months ago, police began dispersing people using the order only for it to turn out one was never in effect.
Section 35 was also used to remove everyone from the Shepherds Bush area during the Lovedown eviction; this was printed and handed to officers with a map of the dispersal area during the eviction. However, this did not stop TSG chasing and arresting more people once they had already left the dispersal area.
On Bonfire Night, the Dispersal Order was finally posted publicly around half an hour after police began enforcing it. I did not see anyone handed the notice throughout the evening, the police simply told people to leave. The City of London Police Officer I asked had no knowledge of its existence, while the Metropolitan Police did.
