Well, I'm a-write a little letter gonna mail it to my local D.J.
Yes, it's a jumpin' rhythm record .. I want my jockey to play
Roll over Beethoven.. I gotta hear it again today

You know, my temp´rature's risin' the juke box blowin´ a fuse
My heart's beatin' rhythm and my soul keep a-singin' the blu--es
Roll over Beethoven.. tell Larrykovski the news

I got the rockin' pneumonia.. I need a shot of rhythm & blues
I caught the rollin' arthritis.. sittin' down by the rhythm review
Roll over Beethoven.. they´re rockin' in two by two

Well, if you feel it an´ like it.. go get your lover..
Then reel & rock it roll it over then move on up just-a trifle further
Then reel & rock with one and another
Roll over Beethoven.. dig these rhythm & blues [bluesharp]

Well, early in the mornin', I'm givin' you the warnin´
Dontcha step on my red´n white shoes
Hey diddle diddle, I am playin' my fiddle.. ain't got nothin' to lose
Roll over Beethoven.. tell Ludvikovski the news

You know she wriggles like a glow worm dance like a spinnin' top
She got a crazy partner you ought-a see 'em reel & rock
Long as she´s got a dime the music won´t ever stop

Roll over Beethoven.. roll over Beethoven.. roll over Beethoven.. roll over Beethoven..
Roll over Beethoven dig to me this rhythm & blues..

RoB is a 1956 hit single by Chuck Berry originally released on Chess Records, with "Drifting Heart" as the B-side.
The lyrics of the song mention rock and roll and the desire for rhythm and blues to replace classical music.
The song has been covered by many other artists and Rolling Stone ranked it #97 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

This song is about the Rock 'n' Roll craze that was taking over America. Beethoven and Tchikovsky were classical composers who were being bumped aside by Rock.
At the time, many critics dismissed Rock music as a passing fad. The Beatles released a version of this in 1963. They played it at most of their early live shows.
In their early club and dance hall days, Paul McCartney would sing lead on this song.
When they recorded their second album, they gave it to George Harrison to sing, since he had not written any songs yet.
John Lennon: Chuck Berry is one of the all-time great poets, a rock poet you could call him. He was well advanced of his time lyric-wise.
We all owe him a lot, including Dylan. I've loved everything he's ever done.
He was in a different class from the other performers, he was in the tradition of the great blues artists but he really wrote his own stuff.
I know [Little] Richard did, but Berry really wrote stuff, just the lyrics were fantastic, even though we didn't know what he was saying half the time.
