Previously, we went to Dannevirke. Less than half an hour’s drive from Dannevirke is another town that is rich in Scandinavian heritage. The town is called Norsewood. Norsewood’s attractions can be seen in a day.

Exploring the town, we saw a replica of a log cabin and Stave Church which can be found in Johanna’s World. Inside the log cabin are trolls, which are important features in Norse mythology. It is thought that trolls are mythical creatures that live in rocks or caves. Stave Church got its name from the building’s structure of post and lintel construction.

Not far from Johanna’s World is the St David’s Presbyterian Church. It is the only remaining Presbyterian Church in Norsewood. Built in 1905, it was the centre of worship in Norsewood for nearly 90 years. Today, the building is used for major community activities.

Both the Pioneer Museum and the Garage Museum displayed several Scandinavian style artefacts. Quite a few interesting machinery and equipment from the early settler days.

Tucked away in a corner of the town is a shop that sell locally made clothes. We purchased some good quality items at a reduced price. It was worth the tip.
