BLACK MANTA
A descendant of the lost tribe of Atlanteans known as The Deserters, David Hyde, whose mother, Ramona, walked out on him when he was a child, was raised by his father, Jesse on his family’s fishing boat, the Black Manta. Jesse tried to raise Hyde to be tough, unsentimental, and merciless, believing that a black man would need to be tough to succeed in life. He taught Hyde that the latter did not need anyone. As a young man, Hyde worked as a diver and a treasure hunter for Jesse. They sought the mythic Black Pearl, which would grant its user hydrokonetic powers. In the Bermuda Triangle, in the lost Atlantean kingdom of Xebel, he seduced a young woman, wanting the map to the Black Pearl, she saw through Hyde’s intentions and forged a fake map, impeding his search for the Pearl until much later. Eventually, Dr. Stephen Shin contracted Hyde to gain a sample of Arthur Curry’s blood. During the encounter that followed, Arthur’s father, Tom, came to his defense, only to suffer a heart attack in the process, dying 3 days later. following Tom’s funeral, Arthur swore revenge, storming the Black Manta and killing Jesse, believing that he was responsible for Tom’s death. Out of vengeance, Hyde crafted weapons and armor and went hunting. When Arthur became publicly known as Aquaman, Hyde became The supervillain known as Black Manta and would clash with Aquaman on several occasions.


AQUAMAN
Arthur Curry, also known as Orin Atlanson, was born a Human/Atlantean hybrid in the simple town of Amnesty Bay, Maine. He was raised by the humble lighthouse keeper Tom Curry, where his true mother was Atlanna, the queen of Atlantis who was exiled for her son bearing resemblance to Kordax, a tyrannical being known for his blonde hair and ability to control sea life. Beyond that burden, Arthur lived a simple life, until he learned of his origins when Atlanna was in her deathbed. This inspired him to go explore his roots in the deep sea below, and proved the Atlanteans wrong about his supposed resemblance to the once-notorious villain. Thus, he began his sea-faring adventures as Aquaman, where he would then become the king of Atlantis, and a loving husband and father to his family. He's also credited as a founding member of the Justice League of America.
