This one-hour lecture explores the critical importance of using correct botanical nomenclature—specifically the Latin binomial—when identifying plants that produce essential oils. Accurate naming ensures clarity, consistency, and safety in clinical practice, research, and education by distinguishing between closely related species with very different chemical profiles and therapeutic properties. Understanding and applying proper nomenclature is essential for ethical practice, effective communication, and the responsible use of essential oils.

About our speakers:
Carol Scheidel, BSN, RN, CCAP, RA®, is Owner and CEO of R.J. Buckle Associates, LLC, which provides evidence-informed clinical aromatherapy education, ‘M’ Technique® training, and healthcare consulting. She began her aromatherapy practice in 2005 and led a hospital-based aromatherapy program in Texas for 11 years. Carol teaches internationally in classroom and online settings, supporting safe and ethical integration of essential oils into healthcare. Her nursing experience spans critical care, emergency care, rehabilitation, education, and ethics. She is an active member of AIA, AHNA, ICAN, IFPA, and NAHA and lives in Fort Worth, Texas.

Nancy Lubin, CPPC, CZT, CA, brings decades of interdisciplinary study, creativity, and clinical aromatherapy training to her work. Shaped by early life on a wilderness farm in Maine, her path has included textile design, maritime living, life coaching, and integrative wellness education. She was Maine’s first Certified Professional Life Coach and first Certified Zentangle® Teacher, with over 30 years of community-based holistic practice.

Nancy completed her initial aromatherapy certification with Aromahead Institute in 2013 and Teacher Training in 2014, followed by advanced studies in clinical aromatherapy, essential oil chemistry, infectious disease, pain, respiratory care, CO₂ extracts, aromapsychology, and palliative support. Her latest credential is AccuAroma® Certified Practitioner (2025).
