First of all I want to state that I am a clinical mental Health Counselor. I have worked with many individuals with depression. The techniques in this video have been researched and are evidence based.
It is difficult to explain to a person who has never experienced depression what it’s actually like. They may say something like well if you’re feeling sad just get over it. But in reality if you have have depression you know that is not the case. You lose the motivation to do anything because there is a chemical imbalance in your brain that is essentially preventing you from feeling joy. Your brain stops producing those feel good chemicals. So no matter what you do, you will continue to feel a constant pain and constant suffering. You may be able to see why people commit suicide who are depressed. When you can not feel good or feel joy or happy and When that continues for a long period of time you may think what’s the point? All I am feeling is pain all the time. And when you feel like this, it seems like you will always feel like this. You try to see a light at the end of the tunnel, but it just seems so far away and almost impossible to get there.
If you are to the point of desperation, please do whatever it takes. Depression is very complex and is different for everyone. There is no simple cookie cutter way of curing depression for everyone. You have to try different things to see what works best for you.
Talking with a professional can help tremendously. Medication can help tremendously. This video can help. And you can use it on your own time whenever you would like. Please do help yourself in any way that you can.
So on with the video and technique that will help you overcome depression.
The mind works by creating habits. The reason for this is that it helps you save energy for other necessary tasks. Now This doesn’t only work for actions, but feelings as well. You create habits of feeling a certain way. So some instances that could cause depression could be having a string of negative circumstances that happen in your life at once. Or a very big negative circumstance. Making you feel sad or angry or upset for an extended period of time. Now what your brain will do is create a habit, again for the reason of being resourceful. It will continue to produce the chemicals that created those negative feelings. So you may have no reason to be upset, sad, angry, depressed, but your brain has already been trained to create the chemicals that produce those negative feelings. And when you delve into this habit of depression, I’m sure you can image, it’s very easy to go even deeper and deeper into a depression as those negative feelings create negative thoughts, creating a stronger habit of depression. It is a devastating cycle. But it can be reversed and you can overcome it. And here’s how.
Creating a habit in the mind. As you may have guessed, you will need to create a habit of positive feelings and positive thoughts. Essentially, make yourself feel good. I know this is difficult, as your own brain will be fighting against you. But that’s ok, you can fight it. And it will give in.
So in this meditation, what you will be doing is just feeling good, feeling great before you fall asleep. You may feel like you are lying to yourself at first. But this is ok and this is normal. You are disrupting the habit created in your brain so that you can create a new habit. A habit of feeling great. A habit that will make you just feel good for no reason at all.
You will be changing your mindset and reversing the cycle of depression. It takes time to create a strong habit, so listening to this nightly will be a fantastic jump start for you, but you can also do things in your waking life to break that cycle of depression. You can start small if needed. But you need begin taking the steps to improve your life. The problems in your life, begin to solve them and take them head on. No matter how small. Just take that first step. All the small tasks that have been building up. Get those things done. Take the steps in your life that will create positive feelings. Make your life better in any way. Eat better, exercise, learn something new, build a better relationship with someone. You can start small and build from there. When you do this, You will reverse that downward spiral, bringing you to heights you could never imagine. Bringing you Joy and happiness you have never felt before. You can do it.
