Among the hallmarks, typical of Sorento, on the new generation the characteristic wide pillar, the imposing bodywork and the coated wheel arches that have so far defined all three generations remain recognizable. It also adopts some other design features from the latest Kia models, including the "shark fin" positioned on the C-pillar.
In profile, the Sorento's proportions have been slightly adjusted to make it appear longer and leaner. As mentioned, the new model is 10mm longer than its predecessor (now 4,810mm), but has shorter front and rear overhangs. The additional length is found in the wheelbase (the result of the new platform on which the new Sorento was conceived), which has grown by 35mm to 2,810mm. This slightly adjusts the visual character of the Sorento, making it longer and "leaner", despite being 10mm taller. The length of the bonnet also increases, pulling the A-pillar 30 mm further back from the front axle. The rear edge of the tailgate, on the other hand, is perfectly integrated into the car as a whole, thus creating a single line of strong character that extends along the side of the Sorento and up to the rear lights.
With a clear reference to Telluride, the new Kia Sorento adopts vertical tail lights that wrap around the rear profiles of the car.
The lines of the bodywork have become clearer and, especially at the front, they recall a technical and geometrically defined aspect. On the side, horizontal solutions prevail to accentuate the width of the vehicle and its presence on the road. The finish on the rear bumper, on the other hand, simulates twin sports exhaust terminals and also in this case, as for the front part, has a skid plate which is a characterizing and distinctive element of the SUVs. Stylistically, the fourth generation Sorento follows other recent Kia models, such as Telluride and ProCeed: also in this case the model naming is positioned centrally on the tailgate. Finally, a subtle integrated spoiler hides the rear windscreen wiper, simplifying the general lines of the car to the benefit of the driver's rear visibility.
Interior Design
Elegant and refined passenger compartment made with high quality materials and cutting-edge technology
The interior of the fourth-generation Sorento represents a shift in quality and design for Kia's cabin evolution. Since the first generation in 2002, the Kia Sorento has provided the occupants with a practical, robust and functional space, while today the Sorento has set itself the ambitious goal of offering owners something completely different, something surprising, desirable and comfortable. From a sturdy off-roader, Sorento has evolved into the quintessential comfort and practicality of the most modern high-end SUVs on the market.
Sorento thus offers one of the highest quality cabins found in any Kia to date, enriched by a combination of technology-oriented solutions, finishes with high-quality materials and state-of-the-art infotainment. At the same time, it retains the spaciousness and versatility that characterized the Sorento throughout its 18-year distinguished career.
The new cockpit introduces a new and sophisticated design that develops from the two digital displays on the dashboard. The 12.3-inch digital driver-facing instrument cluster is twinned with a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation and infotainment system that extends to the center console. The system is therefore able to clearly display the information in the driver's field of vision while creating an innovative large-screen user experience. The car's numerous functions can also be controlled with new touch buttons on both sides of the screen.
The passenger compartment of the new Sorento also organically integrates a range of technologies aimed at increasing the perception of exclusivity of the environment, such as the "Mood Lamps" lighting system. This light array emits a soft ambient downlight from underneath the dashboard and door trim, creating a lounge-like feel and expanding the sense of spaciousness in the environment. A wireless smartphone charger has been tucked into the base of the center console, while a powerful BOSE surround sound system is also available to deliver the ultimate in-car listening experience.
The quality of the materials has significantly improved, in fact as a whole the passenger compartment blends metal finishes, leather upholstery and surfaces in relief with a satin effect. In Italy, the new Kia Sorento is offered to buyers with a choice of black cloth or black leather upholstery depending on the version.
