You can simulate an anamorphic lens by using a blue streak filter, which is a whole lot cheaper than buying a set of true anamorphic lenses. This DIY anamorphic lens tutorial will get your footage looking like a J.J. Abrams movie on acid in no time!

When you create fake anamorphic flares with a streak filter you lose a lot of control over the flares compared to when you make anamorphic lens flares in AfterEffects.
