HACULLA. Sick Of It All.

"I'm sick of love, I'm sick of money, I'm sick of trying to make money, I'm sick of all this shit, I'm sick of fu*kin people killing each other, I'm sick of war, I'm sick of politics, I'm sick of worrying about cold or warm... I'm sick of it all... Haculla... SICK OF IT ALL"

Here we are 3 years after the world ground to a halt; through heartbreak, suffering, and death we are still standing, still learning, and still growing. We looked to the past to remind ourselves of our innocence and just how far we’ve come. Influenced by SS21’s “New York Tough” collection, FW23 is a reflection of the burns, marks, and scars that this era has left us with and acts as a visible sign of mending or healing. Moving away from hand painting this season, our vehicle of expression can be found as more of a collage or scrapbook. Patches were our first form of 3D art on garments, and this season we hand over control to the wearer. Where originally the patches were sewn onto place, this season we included silver plated pins to allow individuals governance over their garments. We want to show that the fire is still burning, as our flame graphic wraps around a number of our pieces, while Haculla burns in its new typography. The concept of shining accents is further exacerbated by the heavy use of crystals in this collection. These stones complete the gradient between the lines of femininity and masculinity in pieces like our glam rock Chanel tweed, a lightweight variation of the classic fabric found on a traditional businesswoman being punked out with hand-set cubic zirconia crystals. This line is further blurred by graphics that feature super personal, unreleased photographs taken by Harif to illustrate a shift in power from an abuser to the abused. The development that this season presents can also be seen as a graduation. Moving away from hobo dress-up, we keep our personality by showing a perversion of college prep wear. We are crafting instead of sketching.

Now is the time of revolution and succession, for the world and for our collection. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
