Today I’m taking my KTM 390 Adventure R back off-road — but this time it’s wearing a whole new setup.
I’ve just fitted a new top rack, pannier rails, and the Lone Rider luggage system, turning the 390 into what should be a proper lightweight adventure bike… but now I’m starting to wonder — have I gone too far?
On paper it all makes sense: more practicality, better luggage options, and proper adventure-bike usability. But once you hit the dirt, weight matters — and the KTM 390 Adventure R is meant to be light, nimble, and confidence-inspiring off-road.
So in this ride I put it to the test:
How does it handle off-road with the full luggage setup fitted?
Has the extra hardware changed the bike’s balance?
Have I accidentally ruined what makes the 390 Adventure R so good?
Or is this actually the perfect lightweight adventure setup?
