Can you replace the outlets in your RV with residential grade outlets? Yes you can! Although it won’t be a “direct swap”, it can be done. The issue is, theirs no box in the wall to install an outlet. Your RV wall cavity’s are too shallow in most areas of your RV for an outlet box, even a shallow one. The best solution I have found for this is boxes made for raceway electrical or surface mount. This puts the outlet box on the outside of the wall, allowing for extra space. A few things to note here though… first is why? The plastic “press to fit” outlets most RVs are manufactured with are awful in my opinion. They are prone to loose connections and are a weak connection themselves. A residential screw connection type outlet is a far better connection, especially for outlets used for high draw appliances such as heaters, cooking appliances, coffee pots etc. remember, electricity isn’t for everyone and this isn’t a 5 minute craft, this is something that should be done by a professional or those with electrical expertise. #rv #rvtechnician #rvelectrical #outlet #howto
