James Tyrrell (1642–1718) was an English political philosopher and historian known for his strong defense of constitutional monarchy and natural rights. A close friend of John Locke, Tyrrell supported Whig ideals and opposed the divine right of kings, emphasizing government by consent. He is best known for his Patriarcha non monarcha, Bibliotheca politica, and General History of England, both Eccesiastical and Civil.
