Donald Trump “led with his chin” when he decided to take on the media in a recent press briefing instead of remaining focused on the coronavirus, according to Sky News host Gemma Tognini.

On Monday Mr Trump played an anti-media video clip during a press conference in what he described as an attempt to correct the fake news presented by the media regarding his response to the coronavirus.

Ms Tognini said while the media are “very partisan in their attitudes toward Donald Trump,” the President “played to the type they were expecting”.

“Nobody wins in this debacle,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

This was completely “unnecessary” particularly in light of the "escalating death toll in the United States… which surpassed Italy’s death toll in the last 24 hours”.

“It shows an inherent narcissism and it shows a thin skin when it comes to his reputation,” Ms Tognini said.
