Introduction
This field deals with the study and design of automotive. This includes the manufacturing and operation of vehicles and is further divided into multiple sub fields.

Now let’s go to, Nature of Work
Automobile engineer’s work involves development, designing and final testing of vehicles or its parts from the whiteboard to practical adaptation, meaning mass production. One has to be responsive to the market feedback and a continuous cycle of innovation and improvement is needed to keep making the product much better than its predecessor.
There are various specialization in this field, like eco-friendly fuels, electronics, ergonomics, IOT or Internet of things, aerodynamics, manufacturing, power transmission, emissions, motor sports, logistics, the list goes on.

Eligibility and Professional Courses
• 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is required
• Various national or state level entrance exams like IITJEE
• One can pursue M.Tech program after completion of B.E. or B.Tech or equivalent qualification. However, the candidate needs to qualify GATE in order to seek admission for this program.
• PhD program can be taken up after completion of the postgraduate studies, or individuals interested in research and development.

Career Prospects
Automobile engineer have a high demand in the manufacturing industries. Several other sectors like Defense Services, Private Logistics Companies, Car manufacturers are open for them. In due course, one can also set up a manufacturing plant and be self-employed. Due to the recent Make In India campaign, governments have started to provide various subsidies to promote in-house manufacturing units. Job opportunities are well in India as well as in foreign countries including the Middle East. In Middle East the pay scales are good and opportunities are many.
One join MTech and PhD programs to enter the research department of various firms. One can also join as part time or full time lecturer or professor in engineering colleges/universities in India and abroad.
An Automobile Engineering graduate earns an average salary of 5 Lakhs per annum. Graduates from reputed institutions command a higher package.
