Baby led weaning - Blake & the Crumpet 7 months - includes gagging example

Описание к видео Baby led weaning - Blake & the Crumpet 7 months - includes gagging example

Baby Blake (7m) enjoying a crumpet with cream cheese. This video has a a good example of gagging while learning to self feed, gagging is a normal part of baby led weaning, they have extremely strong gag reflexes & it’s a natural defense against choking. It’s hard not to intervene when you see gagging but by panicking & intervening can potentially cause a choking situation . When doing baby led weaning it’s very important to learn the difference between choking and gagging and when to intervene & assist your baby in clearing their airways. For this reason it’s highly recommended to undertake a paediatric first aid course and to familiarise yourself in what to do in the event of obstruction, this is particularly helpful if you are feeling nervous to try BLW as knowing how to handle an emergency will help to boost your confidence in your baby. Choking is rare and there’s no more of a risk with BLW than there is with traditional spoon feeding with purées.
For further guidance I highly recommend reading Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley.
