Ukraine declared a nationwide state of emergency on February 23, 2022. The declaration by Ukraine’s parliament allows authorities to impose curfews and restrictions on movement. It follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision on February 21 to recognise the independence of the two rebel-held regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, sparking fears of a Russian invasion.
