What is an Electro Permanent Magnet (EPM)

Electro-permanent magnets (EPMs) are a relatively new technology that are quickly becoming an industry standard, offering numerous benefits over existing mechanical or magnetic interfaces. EPMs are solid-state switchable magnets, with no moving parts and requires no power to maintain its magnetic state.
This is different from an electro-magnet which needs constant power.
- The purpose of an EPM is to create a Strong magnetic “latch” that uses almost no power while on.
- Magnetic “latch” is turned on/off with a short electric pulse
- Grip pressure is grater than 700 kPa
