Abberant Spectres OSRS Slayer Guide Video Showing All Fast Newer Methods 50-55k XP/hour!
Aberrant spectres can be assigned as a slayer task at level 60 Slayer and level 65 combat by various slayer masters, along with the completion of the quest Priest in Peril. They are popular among players for their common high-level herb and herb seed drops.
A nose peg or slayer helmet is required when fighting aberrant spectres, otherwise, they will hit, even through Protection Prayers, and drain your combat stats extremely quickly. As they are undead, the Salve amulet variants can be worn for a damage and accuracy bonus. The Salve amulet does not stack with the slayer helmet when both are worn, in which case only the Salve amulet effect will apply. Regardless, you should most often still wear your slayer helmet or nose peg along with the Salve amulet if you have it, but torture and anguish perform about the same or even a little better due to the resulting only nominal bonus from the Salve amulet. Praying Protect from Magic is recommended. It is possible to also wear magic defense gear such as Dragonhide or Karil’s to tank while healing – but I don’t recommend this.
Aberrant spectres exist in two main locations. The first location is the Slayer Tower. From outside the Slayer Tower, simply run inside then up the shortcut requiring 61 agility which can be boosted, or take the long route. This is a single combat area. A cannon cannot be used in the Slayer Tower. Safespots exist here in the Slayer Tower but are not ideal. Gear generally does not matter, so use your best DPS setup. I prefer a melee-based prayer setup with rapier and proselyte armor, but range or mage could also be used. I use the Saradomin Godsword for special attacks. XP/hour is low here, maxing around 30K xp/hour and not very AFK.
The second location is the Tree Gnome Stronghold Slayer Cave. From the cave entrance, run southeast through the boostable level 72 agility shortcut, or go around. This is also a single combat zone, but it is possible to use a dwarf multicannon. Safespots also exist here but are not ideal. Again, gear does not particularly matter, but I use a typical melee-prayer setup. Melee is recommended to lure the aberrant spectres towards your cannon. Using the torture over the Salve is recommended here, mainly to help your cannon accuracy. This is faster XP and generally the fastest way to complete the task – I was getting about 37k XP/hour.
If you have unlocked the Bigger and Badder perk from a slayer master, a superior spectre, the Abhorrent spectre, may spawn. This superior has no special mechanics, so simply pray protect from Magic and kill as normal. These are rare but can boost overall slayer XP/hour.
A stronger variant of aberrant spectre, the deviant spectre, can be found in the Catacombs of Kourend. Use Fairy Ring DJR to the Chasm of Fire, then go into the hole to the east. You’ll need to exit this hole from the Catacombs before it becomes an option. This can be better for ironmen trying to train herblore. Deviant spectres are much stronger with higher stats but can be easily AFK'ed due to being aggressive and in small clusters in a multi-combat area. You will need to pray protect from magic. Deviant spectres in the Catacombs have their own superior, the Repugnant spectre. This superior also has no special mechanics, so simply pray protect from Magic, and kill as usual.
Ranged is the best way to kill deviant spectres, with the twisted bow and Amethyst arrows being the best option at around 12 DPS and cheap to use. The blowpipe with Amethyst darts will get you faster kills, sometimes you don’t need that 80 hit from the Twisted Bow – although there is a cost to using the blowpipe. I was getting about 30k XP/hour with the Twisted Bow and about 33k XP/hour with the blowpipe. Dragon arrows and dragon darts could get you between 35k and approaching 40k xp/hour.
There is also a Venator bow method which is not AFK that can be about 50k slayer XP/hour with amethyst arrows. I tested this off-task later and I was getting about 13 DPS + thrall damage, which translates to about 50k slayer xp/hour. This is also over 200k range XP/hour. This method requires a bit of constant attention for luring, and is harder to pick up drops, so I have mixed feelings on this method, but go ahead and do what works best for you. This is the fastest slayer XP/hour however.
Regardless of range method, I recommend bringing a blowpipe for occasional healing. If you don’t have the Salve ammy with the range boost, the anguish is nearly as good since the bonus over the Slayer helm is nominal. Max melee is also OK XP, a little less AFK, although cheap. To reset aggression, simply run up the hole and over to the fairy ring area, then back down.
