How to Use a Benchtop Jointer

Learn how to use a benchtop jointer. In this video I'll show you how to use a jointer. Using a jointer can be made simple by understanding the functions and the features of a jointer. I will cover all of the common features and mechanisms on a benchtop jointer and how to use them properly. If a jointer is not set up correctly it is possible to waste a lot of time and wood in trying to get flat, even edges. In this video I will show how to set the jointer knives and what wood planer techniques will work in getting good results from your wood jointer such as my Rikon 6" benchtop jointer. I will also explain how to properly set your benchtop jointer fence and how to rotate and replace jointer cutter blades if they become damaged. If your lumber is not flat and even it can be dangerous to run it though a table saw before it has been edge jointed and flattened which I will show you how to accomplish on my Rikon Jointer. A jointer is a very important tool in a woodworking shop. Being able to properly mill a board flat and true is an essential task in woodworking because flat work pieces lead to more precise and consistent joinery in your projects.
