Hello wildlife watcher and nature explorers, welcome back for another adventure VLOG!

Grab your binos and wildlife guidebooks, because in today’s video we’re going bird watching in Oamaru, New Zealand!

Being right on the coast, the town of Oamaru is a well known wildlife destination in New Zealand. Today we’re exploring this coastline to keep an eye out for fur seals, blue penguins, and rare yellow-eyed penguins.

OAMARU BLUE PENGUINS COLONY
The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is a penguin breeding site and rehabilitation center that gives visitors the unique opportunity to see wild blue penguins every evening! Around dusk, hundreds of blue penguins emerge from sea and return to their nesting sites here.

When purchasing your entry ticket, you can choose to seat in general or premium seating. In my honest review, both sections offer equal viewing perspectives and opportunities.

There’s a small entry fee to participate in this experience, but these proceeds go towards the conservation efforts at this facility. By being here and buying an entry, you’re directly contributing to penguin conservation. Reserve your ticket and time by visiting their website linked here: https://www.penguins.co.nz

Please note that taking photo and video of this experience is NOT permitted with a general entry. This measure is in place to minimize the disturbance of wildlife — penguins are easily skittish and reactive to crowd noise and movements. I made previous arrangements to feature this experience on my channels (outside of this lighthearted VLOG) that granted me permission to film and take photos.

YELLOW-EYED PENGUINS
If you’re a wildlife nerd like me, you’re probably wondering where you can find yellow-eyed penguins, the rarest penguin species in the world. In this video I share the best locations and best times to spot this endangered species! Hint: it’s not far from Oamaru!

I was half-kidding in the vlog when I plugged my Amazon Storefront. If you’re curious to see an organized place where I share all my wildlife and travel must-haves, I invite you to explore my Amazon Storefront linked here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/jeff_hyer [Disclosure: link contains affiliates]
