An epidermoid cyst is a common, slow-growing, benign cyst that forms just beneath the skin. These cysts develop when the epidermal cells, which make up the outer layer of the skin, get trapped and multiply beneath the skin, forming a small sac filled with keratin, a protein found in skin cells.
