It gave me the opportunity to segue into talking about one of my favorite sword families, the Turko-Mongol sabres. These swords enjoyed a long use, from approximately the mid 8th century through perhaps the 14th century, across Eastern Europe and Asia, and had lasting impacts on sword designs through many neighboring regions.

This lovely example by Hanwei is a replica of the original found in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna.
