This reading features The Parliament of the Animals, a haunting and visionary scene from 'Kingsmere Gate,' a story in Larissa C. Douglass’s forthcoming novel Isis Chrysalis. Written and read by Larissa C. Douglass.

The story is set during the Second World War at Kingsmere, the eerie retreat of Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. Known for his fascination with the occult, King conducted séances in the Gatineau Hills, speaking to his deceased mother for political guidance.

In this scene, a dark matter goddess - summoned through one of these séances - arrives through the Kingsmere Gate, an archway that was originally the burned door of the British Parliament. As the Parliament of Animals convenes under the northern lights, they plead with the goddess to spare the humans of their land from destruction and total loss in World War Two.
