Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to assertively secure the state's rightful share of Krishna and Godavari River waters.
At a high-level meeting with irrigation officials and legal experts, the CM emphasized thorough preparation for presenting Telangana's case before the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, which oversees water allocations between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh under the State Reorganisation Act.
Highlighting that 70% of the Krishna basin lies in Telangana, the CM argued that the state deserves an equivalent share of the 1005 TMC allocation.
He also stressed Telangana's entitlement to 45 TMC of Godavari water diverted to Andhra Pradesh's Krishna Delta via the Polavaram project, calling for this allocation to be used through upstream projects.
Revanth Reddy questioned the decisions of river management boards without a final tribunal verdict and proposed raising the issue in the Supreme Court.
Plans for telemetry systems to monitor water flows in real-time, costing ₹12 crore, were also discussed, with Telangana offering to cover the initial expense.
The CM reviewed major irrigation projects and directed officials to expedite approvals for the Sitarama and Sammakka Barrage projects.
A detailed report on Telangana's historical water losses since 2014 will form the basis for its legal argument.
