Thiru Muruga Kirupanandha Variyar, popularly known and reverently called as Variyar Swamigal was born at Kangeya Nallur, a small village on the bank of 'Palar' river. This village lies at a distance of 5 km between Vellore and Katpadi in Vellore District. This province is referred to as Thondai Nadu in Sangam literature.

It is not possible to set a limit for the services rendered by Variyar Swamigal for the propogation of Thiruppugazh to all the eight directions of the world, for establishing firmly the Doctrine of Saivam (a system of worshipping Lord Siva as the God) in this land, and to practice the Pooja performance based on the Principles of saivam in temples and shrines. While looking at the great tasks which our Swamigal carried out enterprisingly as a single person, which would be done by great organisation like Mutts, for this reason we have to think that our Swamigal was a distinct representative sent by the God. Not spending merely his days only by carrying out discourses, Swamigal turned the people to be honest and to attain sacred life, hence built a new world. By establishing 'Thiruppugazh Sabai' at the place of his manifestation out of his earnings. Swamigal endowed his earnings and properties for the functioning of the Sabai and other Charitable activities as long as the Sun and the Moon exist in the Universe. When coming to know these things, we can feel an inspiration evoking out of our mind that we also should do such services to the mankind. While going through the motto of Thiruppugazh Sabai, our eyes tear. The thoughts grafted in the mind of our flawless emerald would guard the future buds like an armour. Swamigal celebrated Lakhsha Deepa Vizha on Visaka Natchatram of Masi Month every year. Only people who participated in that celebration would feel the excellence of the celebration.
