🙏 What is the Śūraṅgama Dhāraṇī?
The Śūraṅgama Dhāraṇī, also known as the Great Resolute Light Dharani or the Mantra of Heroic Strength, is one of the most revered and powerful mantras in Mahayana Buddhism. It originates from the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, a profound scripture that emphasizes meditation, wisdom, and protection from inner and outer obstacles on the path to enlightenment. The Dharani itself is often called the “Mantra of the White-Robed Guanyin”, as it is said to be taught by the Buddha for Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva to safeguard practitioners from all forms of delusion and negativity.

Composed of thousands of Sanskrit syllables, the Śūraṅgama Dharani is considered both a cosmic vibration of enlightenment and a protective shield. It is said to summon the presence of countless Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and protective deities, dispelling dark forces and negative karma. More than a recitation, this Dharani serves as a meditative practice that purifies the mind, strengthens concentration, and nurtures compassion and insight.

Sanskrit Phonetic Transliteration:
Om vajra-karma hūṁ,
vajra-siddhi vajra-vikrānte vajra-vikrānta-gāmine svāhā.
Om vajra-jale vajra-sāgare vajra-sattve svāhā.
Om vajra-cittotpāda samyak-saṃbodhaye svāhā.
This mantra represents the Fifth Division of the Śūraṅgama Dhāraṇī, dedicated to Amoghasiddhi Buddha, the embodiment of All-Accomplishing Wisdom — the power to transform enlightened intention into perfect action.
The opening phrase, Om vajra-karma hūṁ, invokes the indestructible activity of the Diamond Mind (Vajra-Karma), symbolizing pure, fearless energy that manifests compassion through purposeful deeds.
