Ian McDonald is a founding member of both King Crimson and Foreigner. Ian's Mellotron string parts on "Court of the Crimson King" the opening track from King Crimson's debut album are a watershed moment in the evolution of Progressive Rock Music.

In this interview, Ian traces the inspiration for this iconic sound back to the Beatles song, Yesterday, where the lads first combined orchestral sounds with the instrumentation of a standard rock & roll group.
