Initial Assessment Interview for Social Work 505. Widener University

Hello class, unfortunately due to a family illness my husband was unable to participate in this week's role play. Instead, I used a colleague to portray a woman experiencing depression and loss.

Coleen was referred to me from a hospital setting. We meet for our first session to conduct the beginning of an initial assessment. In this meeting I used a strength based Generalist model focusing on attending skills, collaboration and empathy to construct a therapeutic alliance and begin to set goals. I made it a point to illustrate to Coleen many of the strengths she has already exhibited and tried to lay the foundation for goal setting.
Within our session, I also used the Miracle Question to both lighten the mood and explore goals for us to work on together.
