Walkthrough:
Things to know about Gilgamesh during my playthrough (these are not facts but based upon my 1000+ attempts:
FYI: ATTEMPT means combination of reset/escape/trial and error battles
1. Can show up any dead time during a battle
2. High luck/Critical Health/Escape Attempt doesn't affect Gilgamesh's show up rate
3. During Gilgamesh's animation: If Excalipoor is the first sword in the camera = MASAMUNE; If Excalibur = Zantetsuken; Odin's Sword = Excalibur; Masamune = Excalipoor.
4. Gilgamesh never shows up twice in a battle
5. Showed up MAX 4x in 15 minutes (with 3x Speed Booster)
6. MASAMUNE showed up 5x; Excalipoor 1x; Zantetsuken showed up the most then Excalibur.
7. Masamune critical 1 of 5 times

What exactly do you need to do in order to kill Tri-Point:
1. Must have 30 damage or less claw attack Tri-Point (4400 hp)
2. Have Gilgamesh show up in battle
3. Have Gilgamesh pick up MASAMUNE
4. Masamune must CRITICAL HIT
5. Since a critical hit doesn't deal 4400 hp, Squall needs to do an attack with trigger (around 100ish with flame saber. If you got Punishment it's plus 50 damage)

How I did it and what was my process:
1. Must have Zell/Squall/Quistis as party (Tri-point's level is based upon your current active members average level)
2. I use 3x booster speed as time is precious
3. Reset IF: Tri-point deals 31 or more damage claw attack
3. Escape if: Tri-point uses scan as the first attack. The following attack may kill you.
4. Stay if Tri-point does 30 or less claw damage attack
5. Stay and hit character change button and wait for Gilgamesh to show up
6. If while waiting, it's okay if Zell/Quistis dies. But NEVER LET SQUALL DIE.
7. Once Gilgamesh finally shows up, pay attention to the first sword that will show up. If anything but Excalipoor shows up. Reset or immediately escape)

What not to do (Looking back, I should've not done these):
1. Don't use the Rinoa/Angelo Rush method. Angelo Rush is very unreliable. Also, as Rinoa is higher level than Squall and Quistis/Zell, your average party level increases. Thus, Tri-point's level increases. Lastly, during my 1000+ attempt, Angelo only showed up less than 10x
2. If you're thinking about increasing your GFs level by obtaining Bahamut in DSRC. Think again. The odds of you getting "BREAK" in Selphie's Slot is so low (I get ONE break per 30min). Also, you need to get break twice as you will be fighting TWO Ruby dragons. In addition, the odds of breaking a Ruby Dragon is let's just say not quite high as they're higher level. Lastly, if let's say you successfully petrified both Ruby Dragons, you have to beat Bahamut.
3. Do not get DIABLOS and BROTHERS as they will decrease your GFs average level, which will then decrease MASAMUNE'S damage.
