I used to work as a night janitor at an old ice rink in Palmer, Alaska.

It was mostly quiet—just me, the hum of the refrigeration units, and the wind howling against the metal roof.

The first time I saw it, I was buffing the rink.

A figure at the far end of the ice—motionless. Pale. Wearing old skates.

I thought it was a kid sneaking in.

I skated toward it.

It didn’t move… until the lights flickered.
When they came back on, it was gone. But its reflection was still in the ice.

I told the manager the next day. He just said:
“That’s why no one works past midnight anymore.”

I tried to quit.
But I needed the paycheck.

The next few nights, I’d hear blades scraping across the rink… long after I’d locked the doors.

And then came the night I found the old door in the equipment room.
It was frozen shut.

I pried it open.

Behind it? A tunnel.
Leading straight under the rink.

And I swear to you—what I saw down there wasn’t human anymore.

And it was wearing my uniform.
