Detroit Tigers 1984 Broadcast: Behind-the-Scenes

In April of 1984 the Detroit Tigers broke out with the hottest start in professional baseball history. They had 35 wins and only 5 losses in the first quarter of the season. By August the Tigers had settled into a less torrid pace and, mid-month, they hosted the Seattle Mariners for a three game series at Tigers Stadium.

On August 18 producer Brad Graham brought 4 television camera crew to Detroit to capture the process of televising a baseball game just as it happens. This is the result: a one-hour. Cinema-verité look at a slice of Americana, with no narration, as if you are watching the event as it unfolds. The program was part of a research project at Michigan State University and is presented here by Historical Films.
