Today we are going to be upgrading the Anycubic Mega S with the Triangle Labs all metal hotend. It is a high quality budget friendly kit works well on this printer.

I want to answer the question of if it is worth it. The print quality is very good from the new hotend, but I was already getting pretty good print quality. The new hotend heats up in a similar time of about 1 minute 30 seconds, so that stayed about the same. The nickel plated copper was a great improvement over the aluminum stock heat block since filament from failed prints don't really stick to it.

Luckly I didn't even have to do much tuning of this hotend, and the installation was really easy with my upgraded X-Carriage I have on this printer. I ran a retraction tower and temperature tower. My retraction distance is now down to 3mm instead of the 6mm I was running before.

So what are the differences here?
In the all metal hotend the PTFE tube doesn't reach all the way to the nozzle thus it won't get heated to the nozzle temp. PTFE starts to break down at about 240C or 250C and that's not a great thing to be around. I have seen different numbers of exactly what temperature and how much is really released at various temperatures, but I would for sure air on the safe side here. Especially if you are going to be around it while it is running.

I would recommend this upgrade if you want to work much with high temp filaments, or if the stock one is giving you any trouble. But if you are only printing PLA, I used the stock one for years and got good results out of it.
