Consulting is a major part of the development job market. And as one of the world's top donors, the European Union is an attractive destination for consultants in a variety of fields -- from governance to gender to green energy. Yet even for the most seasoned expert, it can be difficult to build a successful career as an EU aid consultant.

So, how do you win a consulting assignment with EuropeAid -- and how to avoid bureaucratic hurdles and other pitfalls once on the job? These questions were front and center at our recent webinar "Successful consulting with EuropeAid."

The webinar featured a presentation by Henry Leerentveld, cofounder and chairman of Technical Assistance Consultants United, a membership organization that represents the interests of individual aid experts. After his presentation, Henry answered questions submitted live by webinar participants, together with his colleagues Stephen Dewar and Michael Gericke.

Henry, Stephen and Michael are all seasoned development consultants, with decades of EU consulting between them in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific and beyond. And they all hold leadership positions at TACU: Stephen cofounded the organization with Henry and now serves as its general secretary; Michael is an advisory board member.
