A Porbandar court acquitted former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt in a 1997 case of custodial torture. The court held that the petitioner could not prove that Sanjiv Bhatt had forced the complainant to confess the crime. The court said that the petitioner could not produce evidence that the complainant was allegedly threatened or tortured by Sanjiv Bhatt and another accused constable Vajubhai Chau.
