Описание к видео Why are there 360 degrees in a circle? (Maths tutorial)

This is a simple maths tutorial answering the question of why there are 360 degrees in a circle. You can find the written tutorial here:

----------------------------------------------------
There are three theories as to why there are three hundred and sixty degrees in a circle. The first is that 360 is simply an easy number to work with because it's divisible by so many other numbers (24 in fact). But then why 360 and not 720 or 1080, which are divisible by more?

The second theory relates to the solar and lunar calendar. There are 365 days and 355 days in each respectively - and 360 is the number that's right in the middle, and once again much easier to work with.

Lastly, if you were to take the radius of a circle and make an equilateral triangle with it (identical sides and angles) you'd find that six of them fit beautifully into the circle. In the past, people used the sexagesimal system which has a base of 60 (we use the decimal system now, that has a base of 10). It's thought that each of these triangles were arbitrarily given the value of 60. And 6 x 60 = 360.

So there you have it, three theories as to why there are 360 degrees in a circle. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter why we use 360 - what's important is that you know how to measure angles and use them when needed. Check out this tutorial to learn how:

The trivia is cool though, isn't it?
