Two Minneapolis gas and convenience stores were burglarized in smash and grab incidents early Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 2022.

One of several videos submitted to Crime Watch by 36 Lyn Refuel Station shows a vehicle back up and smash through their front doors, and two suspects proceed to steal items from the store.

Holiday Gas on the 5600 block of Xerxes Avenue South and 36 Lyn Refuel Station on the 3500 block of Lyndale Avenue South were both hit by reportedly the same suspects who used a vehicle to smash into the front doors of the businesses.

Minneapolis police were dispatched about 3:48 a.m. to the Holiday station on Xerxes on a report of loud banging and shouting heard during a possible burglary of the business, according to dispatch audio.

A witness told 911 that a blue Toyota Corolla was seen speeding away from the business after it backed into the door. The driver was described a white male in a mask who was possibly under the age of 16, along with a passenger who the witness described as under age 13 in a black sweat suit.

Police arrived at Holiday and eventually requested the Minneapolis Crime Lab to respond to process the scene.

About 5:50 a.m., police were called to the 36 Lyn Refuel Station on a report by someone who arrived at the store to find the doors smashed, possibly by a vehicle, according to dispatch audio. Crime Lab was also requested to that scene by responding officers.

Photos and videos provided to Crime Watch show the front doors of 36 Lyn Refuel smashed out of the frame and shelves in disarray following the crash through the doors.

A spokesperson for 36 Lyn Refuel told Crime Watch that the burglary at their store occurred around 4 a.m. by "kids" who were driving a Toyota vehicle with Wisconsin plates. They believe the perpetrators to be the same ones who hit the Holiday store. The suspects got away with tobacco and CBD (cannabidiol) products from 36 Lyn Refuel. Information about the loss from Holiday wasn't immediately available.
