Yajuj and Majuj in Islam

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, my dear brothers and sisters.

Today, I want to share an important topic in Islam: the story of Yajuj and Majuj. These names might sound strange, but they are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith, and their story is connected to the events of the end of the world. Let’s learn about who they are, what they will do, and when they will appear, in simple words.

Who Are Yajuj and Majuj?
Yajuj and Majuj are two large groups of people who will cause great trouble on earth. They are described as very strong, destructive, and uncontrollable.

Right now, they are trapped behind a strong wall built by a king named Dhul-Qarnayn. Dhul-Qarnayn was a righteous and wise king mentioned in the Qur’an. He built the wall to stop Yajuj and Majuj from harming people.

Allah says in the Qur’an: "Then he (Dhul-Qarnayn) built a barrier They (Yajuj and Majuj) were unable to climb over it, nor could they dig through it."
(Surah Al-Kahf, 18:96-97)

This wall is holding them back, but one day, Allah will allow them to break through.

What Will Yajuj and Majuj Do?
When Yajuj and Majuj come out, they will cause destruction everywhere. Their numbers will be so large that no one will be able to fight them.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) said:
"The first of them will pass by the Lake of Tiberias (Sea of Galilee) and drink its water, and the last of them will pass and say, ‘There was once water here.’"
(Sahih Muslim, 2937)

This shows how huge their numbers will be. They will destroy crops, drink rivers dry, and harm people everywhere. Their actions will make life very hard for everyone.

When Will They Appear?
Yajuj and Majuj will come after Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon Him) returns to earth.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) told us that Prophet Isa will defeat the false messiah (Dajjal). After this, Yajuj and Majuj will break free and spread their destruction.

The believers, led by Prophet Isa AS, will pray to Allah for help. Allah will answer their prayers and send a special disease that will destroy Yajuj and Majuj completely.

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) said:
"Allah will send worms that will appear in their necks, and they will die."
(Sahih Muslim, 2937)

After their death, the earth will be cleaned, and peace will return.

What Can We Learn?

The story of Yajuj and Majuj is a reminder of Allah’s power and the importance of preparing for the Day of Judgment. It teaches us to stay strong in our faith, obey Allah, and seek His protection.


Surah al Kahf as protection from the Dajjal
A ḥadīth about preserving (ḥifẓ) ten verses from the beginning of sūrah al-Kahf is ṣahīh, Imam Muslim has extracted it in his ṣahīh [his compilation of authenticated narrations] from Abu al-Dardā’, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet ﷺ [who] said: “Whosoever preserves ten verses from the beginning of sūrah al-Kahf is protected from the the trial of al-Dajjāl”.

Let us pray to Allah to keep us safe from trials and guide us on the straight path.
O Allah, protect us from harm and make us among those who enter Paradise. Ameen.
