In this video, Professor John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy demonstrates how to resurface a hardened charcoal block.

With regular usage a jeweler's charcoal block can become uneven and covered with flux glass. These conditions make it difficult to perform some soldering operations. To ameliorate these problems all you need are: a flat surface, a piece of newspaper and some course sandpaper.
