Check out the last major exposure of crystalline rock heading east toward the coast right here in Turnipseed Nature Preserve. Turnipseed Nature Preserve is the Transitional area Between Coastal Plain and the Piedmont Region. The Rolesville batholith was formed about 300 million years ago when metamorphic rocks were intruded by granitic magma that cooled and hardened. You will see evidence of this when we hike the boulder trail. The wetlands here are full of relaxing sounds of frogs, birds and reptiles.


Dad gets a little descriptive when seeing a strange looking tree and then decides to jump to another rock until we talk him out of it!
