Sippy cups and/or thumb sucking can cause difficulty with articulation and clarity of speech in some children. When a child sucks the thumb or uses certain Sippy Cups for long periods of time, the tongue is misplaced from its rightful position. The most common speech issues are types of lisps, but sucking habits can also cause imprecise articulation, such as slurred or difficult-to-understand speech.
