Crescent Crew Change in Charlottesville!

It's summer! What have you been getting up to?

Mine was uneventful, until my daughter went to visit her grandparents for a couple of weeks. That freed up a bit of time for railfanning, so that's what happened.

First trip was to Charlottesville and environs. First up we're going to see the northbound Crescent, train 20, arrive, swap crews, and then head on out. I don't typically take video of crews working - I've heard all sorts of stories of the railroads finding videos and using them as evidence for violating procedures. In this case I'll make an exception: You'll hear a brief conversation as the inbound engineer comes off the loco - he thought I was his replacement. We had a good laugh and chatted briefly before he told the same story to his outbound counterpart and apologized for pulling so far forward! It was also super cool to see a lady engineer climb up and take the train out. I know she's not unique by any stretch, but still not the most common of experiences.

I didn't catch the name of the engineer who hopped off, but he said he was going to sub to the channel. I prioritized this one just for you - all the best with your travels to, and in, Colorado! Perhaps someday I'll make it that far west, and film a little whilst I'm out there.
