Kosovo - Deserted villages

Serb security forces launched a fierce offensive on Tuesday (22/09) against the last remaining stronghold of ethnic Albanian separatists. The operation was aimed at mopping up the lost pockets of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) controlled territory in the Drenica region. Fighting took place around Mount Cicevica, off the main road between Pristina and Kosovoska Mitrovica. Villages in the region were deserted after the villagers had fled into nearby forests.
